In short: Show How To Write has no accounts, no advertising, and no behavioral analytics or tracking. Your preferences and recently practiced characters are stored only on your own device. The mobile app sends an automatic crash report if it stops working, so we can fix bugs (it contains no personal content). Otherwise, data leaves your device only when you choose to act — when you use voice search (audio goes to your device's speech recognition and the recognized text to a Google AI service so the app can figure out which character you want), or when you choose to send us feedback by email.
The app saves the following on your device using local storage. None of it is sent to us:
All of the settings above are stored locally on your device (in app preferences on mobile, or in your browser's local storage on the web). We do not operate a user database and we do not upload, sync, or back up this information to any server.
Voice search is optional. It only runs when you tap the microphone button. When you use it:
We do not record, store, or keep your voice audio or the recognized text. If you never use voice search, no audio or text leaves your device.
To help us find and fix bugs, the mobile app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics. If the app crashes or hits a fatal error, it automatically sends a diagnostic report containing the error and stack trace, your device model and operating-system version, and basic app state at the time of the crash. These reports contain no personal information and none of the characters you practice. Crash reporting applies only to the mobile app — the web version does not use it.
Because all stored data lives on your device, you are always in full control:
The app relies on the following services. Each has its own privacy policy:
See Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
If you choose the in-app "report a problem" option, the app opens your own email app with a message pre-addressed to us and pre-filled with technical details that help us diagnose the issue: the app's region and provider configuration, whether you are on the web or a native app, a timestamp, and recent voice-search diagnostic logs. Those logs may include text the app recognized, but never your voice audio.
Nothing is sent automatically. The message simply waits in your email app, where you can read, edit, or delete any of it before deciding whether to send. If you do send it, we receive your email address and whatever the message contains, and we use them only to respond to and resolve your report.
The "rate the app" option opens your app store's standard in-app rating dialog (Google Play or the App Store). Any rating or review you leave goes to that store under its own privacy policy, not to us. The "share" option opens your device's share sheet with a link to the app so you can pass it to a friend; we do not receive anything when you share.
The app is suitable for learners of all ages. It does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
